So I’ve discovered my lady friend and her mother very much fall into the stereotype when it comes to knowing about cars. Lady friend doesn’t even really know how to do basics, except check fluids that is. I’m fine with this, I’m in the process of teaching her. This Thursday night she will be helping me replace a caliper, rotors, brake pads, and do an oil change on my car and an oil change on her car. However I have hit one big snag. I am planning on buying a broken down XJ off of her mother and they cannot remember what they were told what is wrong with it. Honest to god two different people told them two different things. You won’t believe this, one said the transmission is out(possible) and the other said blown head gasket(most likely, it’s a 2000). I am a bit frustrated but for the price of the thing I could afford to do both with used parts and still be ahead on what a similar one would cost.

It’s nice that Ladyfriend™ is willing to learn how to car. My last one said that she liked doing car stuff, then when we started doing car stuff she learned that she didn’t like it. It was sad.

sooo whats the issue? if its only one or the other, your waayyy ahead of the game. if its both, you can still come out ahead.

In your mods, let it be known that the pre 97 ARB bumpers are shorter to the fenders then the 97+ bumpers. It’s he one I got for that reason and with cut fenders it looks a little better without having to cut the bumper after you decide to cut your fenders.

My Jeep for reference, ignore the red wipers, they were on sale or some other stupid reason to put them on.

Don’t go for a snorkle unless you want a drop in power. Trust me, I wanted one for a long time and when I learned that I was hurt. Avoid any and all Rough Country lifts. What size lift and tires do you plan on putting on? How are the rear shock mounts? How’s the oil pan gasket?

I’ve got a ‘95 XJ right now.

A few years back one of my brother’s friends had an xj that was making a loud clunking sound so he took it to a mechanic. The mechanic told him it needed a new engine and it wouldn’t be worth saving and offered him 1000 for it. He sold it to my brother for 1000 instead. My brother checked it over and found the bolts between engine and transmission were loose. He tightened it up and it ran great after that. Mechanics can be skeevy and or stupid.

I’m actually thinking of going the custom route when it comes to my bumper.

All of us will come to be known inall of us will come to be known in the next month.once I find tires that I like that I’ll decide how much lift it gets. Also, I wonder if there's a way to get around the power loss

For a while I thought she was frustrated just because I talk about car stuff, she was frustrated because I wasn’t explaining it to her too.

This coming Saturday I will find out. I kind a hope it's the head gasket but I also kind a hope it's not.

Wow, Siri really botched up my reply. I was thinking more along the lines of forcing air down the pipe but nitrous is a viable option haha.

Drag it to a repair shop and have an independent inspection. Set a price based on that report so no one can think you screwed the mother or yourself. If your GF is a long term deal, this could prevent hard feelings in the future.

No double ententre meant.

She has the price set at what she wants and the thing has sat for a little bit. I think the price is fair for a non running Cherokee.
